Apple Watch Series 11: Full review, price and where to buy in Tenerife
Apple’s flagship smartwatch is getting its biggest health update to date. After weeks of wearing it on our wrist, here’s our full verdict on the Apple Watch Series 11 — and why buying it in Tenerife saves you more than you might think.
What’s new in the Apple Watch Series 11?
The Apple Watch Series 11 (models A3331 42mm, A3333 46mm) was launched in September 2025 alongside the iPhone 17. It replaces the Series 10 with significant improvements to health features, the display and performance — this is no minor update.
The main changes:
- Blood pressure monitoring — a first for the Apple Watch, using optical sensors for on-demand readings
- Larger screen — 10%: a larger screen area than the Series 10, with even thinner bezels
- S11 chip — a faster processor with enhanced machine learning for health algorithms
- Improved battery — Apple promises 18 hours, with real-world usage closer to 20–22 hours for most people
- A sleeker design — the thinnest Apple Watch to date, at 9.7mm
- New dials — making the most of the larger screen
At €439 in Tenerife for the 42mm GPS model (compared to €449 on the mainland), it’s not cheap — but it’s the most capable smartwatch you can buy if you have an iPhone.
Health features: Why people actually buy the Apple Watch
Health monitoring is what transforms the Apple Watch from a notification gadget into a genuinely useful device. The Series 11 takes this further than any previous model.
Heart rate monitoring
Continuous heart rate monitoring throughout the day and during workouts. The optical sensor is accurate, with a margin of 1–2 BPM compared to a chest strap in our tests. High and low heart rate notifications alert you to potential problems before you notice them yourself.
Blood pressure (new)
The Series 11’s star health feature. The watch takes blood pressure readings on demand using optical sensors on your wrist. Apple carefully positions it as a tool for tracking trends rather than as a clinical blood pressure monitor — it shows whether your blood pressure is trending up or down over time, rather than providing precise systolic/diastolic readings like a traditional cuff.
Is it useful? For people who have never monitored their blood pressure (which is the majority of those under 50), having some data is better than having none at all. High blood pressure is known as «the silent killer» because most people do not realise they have it until something goes wrong. The Series 11 makes passive awareness possible.
Limitations: It requires regular calibration using a standard blood pressure monitor to ensure maximum accuracy. It is not a substitute for clinical monitoring if you have a diagnosed condition.
ECG
A single-lead electrocardiogram is available on demand. Place your finger on the Digital Crown for 30 seconds and the watch will record an ECG that can detect signs of atrial fibrillation (AF) — the most common form of irregular heart rhythm. The results are exported as a PDF so you can share them with your doctor.
This feature has genuinely detected undiagnosed AF in users who had no symptoms. It’s not a gimmick — it’s a screening tool that could flag up a serious condition before it causes a stroke.
Blood oxygen (SpO2)
Continuous background monitoring of blood oxygen saturation. The watch alerts you if the readings fall below normal thresholds, which may indicate respiratory problems, sleep apnoea or altitude-related issues.
Sleep tracking
Automatic sleep stage detection (REM, Core, Deep). The watch tracks sleep duration, sleep regularity and respiratory rate during sleep. Sleep mode dims the screen and silences notifications.
The dilemma of the load: If you wear your sleep-tracking watch to bed, when do you charge it? Most users charge it as part of their morning routine (shower, breakfast) — the quick charge takes it from 0% to 80% in about 45 minutes. It works, but it does require you to get into the habit.
Additional health features
- Skin temperature sensor for monitoring the cycle and detecting diseases
- Accident detection — automatically calls the emergency services if it detects a serious car accident
- Fall detection — Call the emergency services if you fall and do not respond within 60 seconds
- Medication reminders — set reminders and keep a record of when you take your medication
Fitness tracking: More than just closing rings
The Apple Watch Series 11 tracks virtually every type of workout with impressive accuracy.
Running: Accurate GPS tracking with real-time pace, distance, elevation, heart rate zones and cadence. The route map in the Fitness app shows exactly where you ran. For visitors to Tenerife: runs along the coast or up Mount Teide are tracked brilliantly.
Swimming: Water-resistant to 50 metres. Tracks laps, stroke type, distance and calories in pool mode. For open-water swimming, it uses GPS to track distance.
Cycling: Automatic workout detection that recognises when you’re cycling and starts tracking. It pairs with Bluetooth power metres and cadence sensors for serious cyclists.
Gym training: Weights, HIIT, yoga, Pilates, dance, cool-down — each with tailored metrics. Heart rate zones help you train at the right intensity.
The Activity Rings They remain the core motivational system: Movement (calories), Exercise (minutes) and Stand (hours). They are simple, visual and surprisingly effective at keeping you active. The social features — sharing rings with friends, competing in challenges — boost engagement.
Display and design
The screen
The LTPO3 OLED always-on Retina display is stunning. Bright enough to read in the Tenerife sunshine (up to 2,000 nits), with a refresh rate that drops to 1Hz when you lower your wrist to save battery life. The 10%’s larger display area means more information is visible — watch faces show more complications, text messages are easier to read and apps feel less cramped.
The box
Aluminium in the standard models — lightweight (31.9g for 42mm, 36.2g for 46mm) and available in various colours: Midnight, Starlight, Silver, Pink and a new colour for 2026. The finish is matt and withstands everyday use well, although the aluminium will show scratches over time.
The 42mm fits comfortably on smaller wrists. The 46mm offers a larger screen but may look a bit too big on very slender wrists. If you’re unsure, try both sizes in-store.
Straps
Every Apple Watch strap ever made is compatible (provided it has the correct connector size). The strap system is Apple’s cleverest design decision — you can buy a €50 sports strap for everyday use and a €99 leather one for the evening, switching between them in seconds. Macys Digital has a selection of straps, and third-party options are widely available.
Battery life: The honest truth
Apple promises 18 hours. Here’s what we found in real-world tests:
A typical day (notifications, some training, heart rate monitoring): 20–22 hours. You’ll end the day with 15–25% remaining. You’ll still need to charge it daily, but the situation is slightly better than Apple’s conservative estimate.
Heavy use (GPS training, music streaming, frequent use of apps): 14–16 hours. A long run or a route with GPS switched on will drain the battery more quickly.
Energy-saving mode: Extends battery life to around 36 hours by disabling the always-on display, background measurements and Wi-Fi. Useful for trips lasting several days where charging isn’t convenient.
Charging speed: 0–80% in 45 minutes. 0–100% in around 75 minutes. The magnetic charger is small and easy to take with you when travelling.
Compared with the competition:
- Samsung Galaxy Watch 7: 40+ hours (twice that of the Apple Watch)
- Xiaomi Smart Band 10: 14+ days (16 times that of the Apple Watch)
- Apple Watch Ultra 3: 36 hours (twice that of the Series 11)
The battery remains the Apple Watch’s biggest weakness. If you find having to charge it every day unacceptable, consider the Samsung Galaxy Watch or the Xiaomi Smart Band.
What is it like living with him?
Beyond the specs and features, this is what it’s like to use the Apple Watch Series 11 on a day-to-day basis:
Notifications They’re the killer feature nobody talks about. You can leave your phone in your pocket or bag. Texts, calls, emails, calendar alerts, delivery updates — a quick glance at your wrist and you’re up to date. You find yourself checking your phone far less often, which is strangely liberating.
Apple Pay On your wrist, it’s quicker than taking out your mobile or your wallet. Double-click the side button, hold your wrist close to the terminal, and you’re done. In shops and restaurants across Tenerife, contactless payment is the norm — Apple Pay on your watch makes every transaction effortless.
Maps With directions and haptic feedback on your wrist, you can navigate without looking at your phone. A tap on one side of your wrist means turn left; a tap on the other side means turn right. Perfect for exploring the villages of Tenerife without looking like a tourist glued to their mobile.
Find My iPhone — Lift your wrist, tap the icon, and your iPhone will ring. Every tourist’s worst nightmare is losing their phone in an unfamiliar place; this feature solves the problem in an instant.
42mm vs 46mm: Which size should you choose?
| Feature | 42 mm | 46 mm |
|---|---|---|
| Screen | A little smaller | Larger, easier to read |
| Weight | 31.9g (lighter) | 36.2g |
| Battery | The same 6.00 pm as stated | The same 6.00 pm as stated |
| Ideal for | Slender wrists, discretion | Standard/large wrists, readability |
| Price (Tenerife) | 439€ | 469€ |
Our recommendation: The 46mm is best for most adults — the larger screen makes a real difference to readability and usability. The 42mm is ideal for slimmer wrists or if you prefer a more discreet watch. Try both on in-store if possible.
GPS vs Mobile: Do you need a mobile?
The GPS model (€439 in Tenerife) requires your iPhone to be nearby for calls, messages and data.
The Mobile model (€579 in Tenerife) works independently — make calls, receive messages and stream music without your iPhone, using its own data connection.
You need a mobile phone if: You run, cycle or swim without your phone but want to be contactable, or if you regularly leave your phone behind on purpose.
You don’t need a mobile phone if: Your iPhone is always within Bluetooth/Wi-Fi range (which, for most people, is most of the time). GPS does everything that the mobile network does when your phone is nearby.
For tourists: GPS is almost certainly enough. You’ll have your iPhone with you whilst exploring Tenerife. Save yourself the €100 difference.
Apple Watch Series 11 vs alternatives
| Feature | Series 11 | Ultra 3 | SE 3 | Galaxy Watch 7 |

vs Ultra 3: The Ultra 3 features a titanium case, diving capabilities, dual GPS, a longer-lasting battery and an Action Button. It’s well worth it for outdoor enthusiasts. For everyone else, the Series 11 does the job just as well for €400 less.
vs SE 3: The SE 3 saves you €150 but lacks an always-on display, blood pressure monitoring, ECG, blood oxygen levels and skin temperature. If health tracking is important to you, spend a bit more. If you’re mainly after notifications and fitness rings, the SE 3 is fine.
vs Galaxy Watch 7: The Galaxy Watch offers over 40 hours of battery life and runs on Android. If you’re a Samsung user, it’s the obvious choice. If you’re an iPhone user, the Apple Watch is the only real option.
Buying it in Tenerife: The price advantage
The Apple Watch Series 11 at €439 in Tenerife (42mm GPS) compared with €449 on the mainland and £399 (~€469) in the UK represents a saving of 30-50€.
At €439 (42mm GPS), it is slightly more expensive than the individual customs allowance of €430 at €9. The charge on that minimum excess is practically nominal. Couples can split the cost between two excesses to avoid any charge. The savings compared with UK/European prices remain real and significant.

Final verdict
Apple Watch Series 11 — 9/10
The best smartwatch for iPhone users, and arguably the best smartwatch, full stop. The addition of blood pressure monitoring complements an already comprehensive suite of health features, the larger screen is a genuine improvement, and the day-to-day experience of notifications, Apple Pay and fitness tracking on your wrist remains unrivalled.
The battery remains the weak point — a daily charge is non-negotiable. And the requirement for an iPhone means that Android users are out of the running. But for the hundreds of millions of iPhone users around the world, the Series 11 is the most compelling reason yet to wear a computer on your wrist.
At €439 in Tenerife (42mm GPS), it’s one of the smartest tech purchases you can make whilst on holiday — a device you’ll use every day of the year.
Available at Macy’s Digital in Parque Santiago 3, Playa de las Américas. Save around €50–70 compared to prices in the UK/Europe.
