iPad Student Discount: How It Works in 2026
Apple does have a real student discount on iPad, but it isn't a percentage off the price: it's a gift card added on top of your purchase, and you can only get it through specific channels. Here's exactly how it works and what real alternative you have if you're buying in Tenerife.
How much is the student discount on an iPad
Apple's education program gives you an Apple gift card starting at €80 when you buy an iPad Air or iPad Pro (the standard iPad and iPad mini are usually excluded from this promotion). It's not a direct discount on the product's price, but balance to spend later in the Apple Store — on apps, accessories, or another product.
The exact terms (amount, included models, campaign dates) change every school year, so before buying it's worth checking the current terms on Apple's official Education page at the time you need it.
How Apple's student discount works
The process runs through a third-party platform, not directly through Apple:
- You sign up on UNiDAYS with your university email (or documentation proving you're a higher-education student).
- UNiDAYS verifies your student status.
- Once verified, you get access to the Apple Store for Education with active pricing and gift cards.
- You buy your iPad and the gift card gets added to your Apple account.
The usual requirement is being 18 or older and enrolled at a higher-education institution (university, vocational college, master's program). There's normally a limit of units per person per academic year — typically two.
In my experience, it's worth checking the campaign's deadline before deciding: since the discount isn't active year-round, waiting too long to decide can mean finding out the promotion has already ended, leaving only Apple's standard price with no extra.
Can you get this discount at Macys Digital?
No. Macys Digital is not an Apple Authorized Reseller, so it can't process or offer Apple's education discount — that program only works through the online Apple Store, physical Apple stores, or specific authorized resellers (Apple Premium Partner), which Macys Digital is not.
What Macys Digital can offer you is a different, real advantage: being in the Canary Islands, products are sold with 7% IGIC instead of the 21% VAT charged on mainland Spain. On Apple products, that tax difference translates into savings that, depending on the model, can be bigger or smaller than the education gift card — but with one important difference: you don't need to verify your student status, there's no limited date window, and the savings are on the price itself, not a gift card to spend later.
In my experience, many students in the Canary Islands don't realize they have this alternative available all year, while Apple's education discount is only active for a few weeks each school year and requires the extra step of verifying yourself on Unidays. Neither option is better in every case — it depends on whether you prefer immediate savings on the price or balance to spend later in the Apple Store.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Apple Pencil also have a student discount?
Apple usually includes accessory promotions (Apple Pencil, AirPods) within its education campaigns, sometimes tied to buying a Mac rather than an iPad, and other times as an independent discount code. Terms change every campaign — check the current offer at the time of purchase.
Can I combine the education discount with other Apple offers?
It depends on the current promotion; Apple usually limits combining education discounts with other simultaneous campaigns. Always check the terms of the active offer before buying.
Am I still entitled to the discount if I'm no longer a student but still have my university email?
Not necessarily. Unidays verification usually checks active enrollment, not just the existence of an .edu-style email, so an old email address doesn't guarantee access.
